Providing proof of ownership for your tools of trade

Tradies tools are essential for earning their income.

Insurance is generally taken to cover the tools against damage and theft that may occur anywhere in Australia for replacement so that you can get back to working as soon as possible.

If you have a loss of your tools, your insurance company will request proof of ownership before they will accept the claim.

In our experience, tools may belong to your business as a result of different factors, including:

  • Purchased new while running the current business
  • Purchased new before running the current business (previous business, apprenticeship or the like)
  • Purchased second hand (from Gumtree, friends or the like)
  • Purchased as part of buying the business

Proof of ownership is generally accepted by providing the original purchase invoice, however, we know that this is not always possible given the various examples above.

So, if you do not have original purchase invoices, how can we provide proof of ownership?

With our Tools of the Trade insurance package, we accept photos of your tools as sufficient proof of ownership. However, you will need to send the photos to us prior to any claim being submitted and we will keep these on file. If a claim is made, we will retrieve your photos and endeavour to get your claim approved as soon as possible, so that you can get back to work.
